Just picked up this message: to offset anti-Carrefour sentiments among Chinese citizens, there will stiff discounts on the 1 May holiday day in various Carrefour supermarkets.

Anti-Carrefour sentiments popped up in the last day because of Carrefour being French and last weeks' prοtests in Paris during the Olympic torch relay (we had moron trying to post on this site too. Was banned very quickly though).

Hope it will not spark another stampede as in Chongqing last year, where cheaper veg oil killed and injured several older people.

Any thoughts on the effectiveness of this upcoming event?

Most likely when Sarkozy and his clique come here again (in October I believe) the local Carrefour director will be there kissing his feet. Boycott Carrefour!
